SKS Walk in Relay for Life

Mishawaka, IN - 5/21/10

A few members of Street Kids Care braved the rain again (rained last year also) for the 2010 Relay For Life, sponsored by the American Cancer Society. Several members of the organization showed up, including Jay Jeffery, Joe Horvath and TJ Jorgensen. But the best appearance was by SKS player and cancer survivor, Shane Varga.

Varga was diagnosed with hodgkins lymphoma last spring and went through a very toughyear, including battles with chemotherapy and radiation. He eventually prevailed, crediting his faith and the support of his friends (along with the medicine of course) as he defeated cancer. For him to come onto the track at Mishawaka High School on Friday night in the rain as a survivor meant a lot to his teammates.

"I think its wonderful for Shane to be out here," said Jeffery. "He's the reason I'm here tonight, walking in his honor as a cancer survivor."

More people are expected to walk again on Saturday at 10am at the high school.
